The Early Years Foundation Stage

Your child will be joining the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) at Whiston Willis. Foundation stage includes both the Nursery and Reception classes.

Children learn through play. They develop new skills, discover new things about themselves and the world around them and learn to share and communicate with others. They also have the opportunity to use their imagination and to be creative. Planning is based on children's interests and there is always a clear purpose to the structured activties we plan in order to provide an appropriate, good-quality Foundation Stage Curriculum.

The curriculum throughout the Foundation Stage is designed around the needs of the young child and is organised into seven areas of learning:

1. Communication and Language

2. Physical Development

3.Personal, Social and Emotional Development

4. Literacy

5. Mathematics

6.Understanding the World

7. Expressive Arts and Design
