My name is Derek Darlington and I’m chair of governors here at Whiston Willis Academy. I have lived in Knowsley for nearly 40 years whilst teaching for almost 42 years in the secondary sector in Liverpool. Being a governor is a very tough and demanding unpaid job. As governors we have 3 core responsibilities namely a) ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction b) holding leaders to account and c) overseeing financial performance and ensuring money is well spent.

It involves attending meetings, reading materials in preparation for those meetings, holding school leaders to account and supporting events held throughout the year.

We have a vacancy for a committed, enthusiastic and energetic parent governor. So if you think you can spare the time and have what it takes to be a governor and would like to support your child, your school, your community then I urge you to apply for the role of parent governor by completing the form on this page and returning to school by Wednesady 31st October.
