We are extremely proud to have been awarded the International School Award for 2019-2022.
Our application for this award comes as a result of two years of work to ensure our school develops understanding of internationalism and our ethos and curriculum promotes citizenship and an appreciation of cultural diversity.
Here are the assessor’s comments on your Impact Evaluation, to highlight where your application was particularly impressive and points to take note of as you continue to develop the international dimension in your school:
"Whiston Willis Primary Academy. International School Award Impact Evaluation: APPROVED. Your school is clearly committed to embedding an international and dimension to your curriculum and whole-school ethos, promoting citizenship, foreign language learning and an appreciation of cultural diversity. Your international dimension is well managed to enrich different areas of the curriculum and to dovetail with school development plans and key priorities. Your eleven international activities link neatly and overtly with different Sustainable Development Goals, enabling your pupils to learn about different countries and aspects of their cultures whilst addressing key issues in a curriculum-based context. Your partnership with a school in France is enriching your MFL teaching and learning, bringing to life the language acquisition element with cultural background and reciprocal exchange of information, messages and photographs. This is clearly illustrated in the excellent Global Learning area of your school website. Your Impact Evaluation is detailed and insightful. Pupils are developing important citizenship skills and attributes as well as excellent knowledge and understanding of key issues. Communication with friends in France is supporting understanding of the wider world and their place in it. Teachers are benefitting from increased awareness with which to enrich teaching and learning. The planned Connecting Classrooms Global Learning project with a school in South Africa will provide extensive CPD opportunities to share good practice and learn about a different country’s education system. Your local community is involved in and informed about your international and work. You have good plans to sustain and develop your international and dimension by extending collaboration with French partner schools and also via the forthcoming Connecting Classrooms project involving a partner school in South Africa. Congratulations to all at Whiston Willis Primary Academy who have contributed to this achievement in the 20th anniversary year of the International School Award! We wish you continuing success and enjoyment with your international work. "
