Intent

At Whiston Willis Primary Academy, we aim to develop knowledge, thoughtful and respectful and respectful learners who understand the importance of religion and worldviews in people's lives, communities and the wider world.

Our inclusive RE curriculum enables pupils to develop knowledge and understanding of a range of religious and non-religious worldviews. Pupils explore beliefs, practices, traditions and ways of living while learning to recognise both diversity within and between different communities.

Through RE, pupils are encouraged to ask meaningful questions, make connections, consider different perspectives and develop their own responses to important questions about belief, identity, values and human experience.

Implementation

Our bespoke RE curriculum, underpinned by the Wirral Scheme, is carefully sequenced to progressively develop pupils' knowledge and understanding of religion and worldviews from EYFS to Year 6. Teachers adapt teaching according to pupils' needs while maintaining ambitious curriculum outcomes for all.

Teaching reflects our whole-school pedagogical approach, informed by Rosenshine's Principles of Instruction and our six-part lesson strcuture. Retrieval, explicit instruction, modelling, questioning, guided practice and regular checks for understanding help pupils connect new learning with prior knowledge and develop increasingly secure understanding.

Oracy is integral to RE. Pupils are encouraged to ask questions, use appropriate vocabulary, articulate their ideas, justify their thinking and listen respectfully to different viewpoints.

As a Rights Respecting School, RE provides important opportunities to explore identity, diversity, equality, respect and the rights and responsibilities of individuals and communities. Pupils learn to engage thoughtfully with differences in belief and worldview within a safe and respectful environment.

Curriculum Progression

Our RE curriculum is carefully sequenced from EYFS to Year 6, progressively developing pupils' knowledge, vocabulary and understanding of religious and non-religious worldviews.
